40th Anniversary of the Bedford School Fire

March 03 | 18:15 - 21:00

On the evening of 3rd March 1979, fire swept through the School destroying the Great Hall and most of the Main Building. However, from the tragedy came many positives including the tremendous community spirit and can-do attitude of the School and wider community to get back to normal as quickly as possible, proving that it is not the buildings that make a school (although they might help), it is the people.

Exactly forty years to the day, The Old Bedfordians Club would like to invite you to an evening to commemorate the fire. There will be a special service in the School Chapel starting at 6.15pm, followed by informal drinks from 7.30pm. We do hope that you can join us - it promises to be a wonderful opportunity to share memories and stories from this poignant period of the School's history, and reconnect with the community that rallied together to rebuild the School from the ashes.

If you would like to attend, please contact Mrs Bev Marshall on 01234 362263 or at bmarshall@bedfordschool.org.uk by 12.00pm on Friday 1st March.

We are contacting all the members of the community that we have on record from that time but if you know anyone else with a connection, please do put them in touch.
