Our Chapel Choir enjoyed a great day out at New College, Oxford on Tuesday 7 May.

The boys arrived at New College in time to join their choristers for tea and have a wander around the college. They were lucky enough to bump into College Warden and Old Bedfordian Miles Young (63-72), who gave the boys a very warm welcome and showed them around! The whole environment was truly stunning, and the boys enjoyed looking at several notable works of art housed within the chapel.  The boys were particularly enthralled by the very unusual organ case with various moving parts.

Later in the day, our boys joined the college’s world-famous choir to sing in their Evensong service – an amazing experience for all the boys. The assembled singers made a tremendous sound at the climax of Stainer’s anthem I Saw the Lord.  Dinner was served in the Founder’s Library afterwards and a very tired set of choristers were then returned safely to Bedford.

Fifth Former Hugh Halsey told us, “It was a great privilege to sing at New College, Oxford. Singing Evensong together with New College was hugely enjoyable”.
