England Development Squad for Golf Scholars

England Development Squad for Golf Scholars

There was been excitement in the school’s golf team this week as news broke that Remove Former Fin Rennie and Lower Sixth Former Jack Peters, both golf scholars, were selected for the England Golf National Performance Programme.

The world-renowned programme has seen top golfing talent train with them over the years, and to be selected is huge testament to the boys’ hard work and progress. Fin and Jack have been invited to attend 10 training sessions in the off season, a gym session every Monday night throughout the year and matches against other regions or counties. The program aims to find and develop players believed to have a real chance of representing their country in team matches. As the boys are now under the watchful eye of England Golf, they could be selected for an international match at any time.

Fin told us, “This means a lot because it is the next stage in my journey, and the fact that they think I could, in the future, be an international player gives me a lot of confidence. The training is really good because it is a lot more focused on us individually instead of at county where it is a bit more of a group session. It has helped my game because the coach has given me a few things to work on and it has made me a more consistent golfer already, even though we have only had a few sessions.”

Jack also recently made the ballot to compete in one of the qualifying rounds for the 150th Open Championship and was placed in sixth place at the Faldo Series French Championships played at Paris National. Additionally, Jack is enrolled on the DISE programme (Diploma in Sporting Excellence), which is a unique sporting qualification designed to meet the needs of student athletes who exhibit the potential to achieve excellence in their sport.
