Empowering Young OBs for Career Success: A Dynamic Workshop with Jonathan Hooley (89–95)

The Old Bedfordians Club has long been dedicated to supporting young OBs as they embark on their professional journeys. In today’s fast-paced and competitive job market, standing out from the crowd has never been more important. Success hinges on making a lasting first impression—one that radiates presence, confidence, and authenticity.

To help young OBs stand out in today’s competitive job market, we recently hosted an inspiring online workshop led by Jonathan Hooley (89-95), a seasoned communications professional with a track record of successful career transitions.

Jonathan redefined how to approach the job market with purpose and poise, introducing the art of transforming lived experiences into compelling personal stories. These stories, rich with identity, values, and skills, are designed to capture attention and resonate with employers.

Participants worked with a thoughtfully crafted playbook to uncover their core values and motivations, aligning them with the needs of potential employers. Jonathan offered practical insights into what recruiters truly value, showing how to weave these attributes into CVs and interviews.

Engaging exercises brought theory to life, as attendees crafted standout personal statements that showcased their adaptability and drive. Jonathan emphasized the importance of research—exploring articles, podcasts, company websites, and client profiles to gain a well-rounded understanding of industry trends and employer priorities.

For many, the prospect of a first interview can be daunting. However, Jonathan equipped participants with tools to articulate their beliefs, motivations, and aspirations with confidence. By the end of the session, attendees felt empowered and ready to apply their newfound techniques to secure their dream roles.

This workshop was more than a guide—it was a game-changer for those seeking to make their mark.

We extend heartfelt thanks to Jonathan for his meticulous preparation and dynamic delivery. His insights have left a lasting impression, and we’re already exploring additional workshops, including mastering the art of networking, crafting standout CVs, and tackling online assessments and interviews.  If you feel you could help please do get in contact with the OB office obclub@bedfordschool.org.uk.
