Curriculum Collapse Day—Boys Dive into Future Careers

At Bedford Prep School, we believe every boy should have the chance to dream big—and discover the skills that will help him get there. That is why we start the conversation about careers early, opening doors to exciting possibilities beyond school.

This week, our latest termly Curriculum Collapse Day was all about careers. Instead of their usual lessons, boys stepped into a world of opportunities through a dynamic carousel of hands-on activities. Each session opened a window into a different profession, encouraging boys to explore, question and imagine their future.

They included:

  • Geography – Boys became volcanologists, planning how to manage an eruption disaster.
  • Science – A mystery unfolded: Stormfly, our beloved bearded dragon, had been “stolen”! Using chromatography and fingerprinting, could the boys crack the case?
  • DT – Budding product designers tested everyday items for design and effectiveness.
  • Music – Aspiring concert promoters created eye-catching posters to draw in audiences.
  • History – Historical detectives investigated the fate of the Marie Celeste and the legend of Atlantis.
  • English – Marketing masterminds developed campaigns for a new film adaptation of The Woman in Black, exploring social media, brand collaborations and creative promotions.

Beyond the classroom, boys enjoyed inspiring careers presentations and sports sessions in which they created fitness programmes for each other.

The day ended on a high note with House Drama, where talented actors from every year group staged a “play in a day”—each performance cleverly themed around careers. The energy, creativity and teamwork on display were incredible. Congratulations to Bunyan House, our overall winners!

Why does this matter? At Bedford Prep, every boy should feel empowered to explore his interests and imagine his future with confidence. Days like this help them see that the world is full of possibilities—and they have the talent to make their mark.
