It was great to see Bedford School represented in the U21 Cronk Cunis rugby tournament at Richmond Athletic Ground, London on Monday 29th August for the first time in a few years! The OB Lizards came with 16 of their best to play in a 15 a side match, but unfortunately were eventually outnumbered by their opponents. However, the team were unfazed and got off to with a great start against Peter Symonds creating a 44-0 victory.

The team carried this strong performance into the second game against Oundle, with an outstanding try from Oliver Burgess (08-16), giving the OB Lizards an end score of 37-5.

As the quarter final arrived, the team’s lack of substitutes on a very hot day led to their downfall. The Perse School’s much larger squad were able to score a final try in the last play of the game, making the final score 19-17 and narrowly knocking the OB Lizards out of the competition.

Despite their defeat, this was a memorable and enjoyable day for the new Old Bedfordian Lizards who are keen to come back next year to claim the cup! Our thanks go to all of the players who took part, and in particular George Cave (05-16) for his help in getting together an OB team for this year’s tournament.
