The week commencing 6 June saw the 1st XI face Felsted in the HMC T20 Cup and a group fixture against Stowe.

Despite a valiant effort by the 1st XI, Felsted took the win in the latest round of the HMC T20 on Friday 10 June 2016.

In their block fixture against Stowe on Saturday 11 June, the 1st XI, U14A, U14B and U14D all recorded wins.  The Ist XI’s win was particularly impressive as they were missing three senior players from the side for various reasons. Stowe decided to bat first and both Will Comfort and Elliot Wingfield bowled well, with the new ball by consistently bowling in good areas. This was backed up with steady bowling from all of the spinners to restrict the home side to 225-6 off 50 overs. This was a score we were happy to chase but we still needed to bat well to chase the score down. The innings couldn’t have got off to a worse start with Ali Hassan getting out first ball. However, this was to be the start of a match-winning partnership between Emilio Gay and Shiv Jhala. Whilst Shiv Jhala scored freely to reach 79, Emilio Gay was happy to play second fiddle and accumulate his runs with skilful glances along with several lusty blows down the ground off the spinners to score 72. It was a shame both batters were out in the same over, which then gave Stowe a sniff of victory. However, a hard hitting knock of 36 not out from Shaylen Tomlinson-Patel and a crucial 9 not out from the ever improving Oli Hind was enough to get the boys across the winning line.
