With record totals in limited overs being the norm this week for the school’s cricket teams, our 1st XI did not want to miss the party.  With a daunting 215 needed to beat Stamford in the Regional Final of the Schools T20 competition on Thursday 21 June, the boys had a tough chase on their hands.  However, they impressively ran down the score with more than three overs to spare.

Openers Harry Gouldstone and Tom Blythman took 20 from the first over and the boundaries just kept flowing. Gouldstone, in a marvellous run of form, hit another 50 (he achieved a half centrury earlier in the week against Trent College) and Blythman 35 before they were both dismissed in the run chase. Gus Miller picked up the mantle and hit powerfully, and when he was out, having reached 50, the game was all but won. It was left to Michael Wells and Ross Denton to complete the job, which they did with panache.

Bedford ‘s bowling was also on top form. Earlier in the game Rahul Sheemar conceded just 18 in his four overs. Emilio Gay bowled two very tight overs in the 18th and 20th innings, which helped to keep a bit of a lid on the Stamford total.
