Bedford School & The Quarry Theatre present their second Creative Arts Festival, bringing together musical performances, dramatic productions, celebrations of the spoken word, exhibitions of great art work and much more! Simply, a wonderful celebration of all the creative and inspirational work that goes on at Bedford School outside the classroom. 

Asylum Monologues

ice&fire theatre explores human rights stories through performance. Through active engagement with human rights themes they create high-quality work which responds to defining issues affecting our society and the world beyond. Yarl’s Wood Befrienders offers befriending support to people held in Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre, aiming to reduce their isolation, reinforce their self-esteem, and affirm their human dignity.

James & The Giant Peach

A Y3-Y8 theatrical performance with puppetry and physical theatre. James Henry Trotter is a young boy who lives with his parents by the sea. Life was great for James until he loses both his parents to a tragic accident. He now finds himself living with his two ignorant and cruel aunts, Spiker and Sponge, who forces him to work all day. However, his life changes after he meets a mysterious man with a bag of magic green “crocodile tongues”.

Leon Butler: Writing for film & 100 Streets

OB Leon Butler is a Writer and Producer for television and film. His first feature film 100 STREETS is a complex, multi-layered drama set in South West London, starring Idris Elba and Gemma Arterton, alongside a plethora of well known UK talent. Leon not only penned the script, but also single-handedly raised the entire £3 million budget from private equity.

Salomé

The story has been told before, but never like this. An occupied desert nation. A radical from the wilderness on hunger strike. A girl whose mysterious dance will change the course of the world. This charged retelling turns the infamous biblical tale on its head, placing the girl we call Salomé at the centre of a revolution. Internationally acclaimed theatre director Yaël Farber (Les Blancs) draws on multiple accounts to create her urgent, hypnotic production on the stage of the National Theatre.

Lord of The Flies

Performed by our upper school pupils. When a group of schoolboys, unknown to each other survive a catastrophic plane crash which was taking them to safety during wartime, what starts as a desert island adventure quickly descends into a struggle for survival in a darkly sinister world of superstition and immorality. Children slide into brutality in this adaptation of Nobel Prize Winning William Golding’s seminal work.

The Big Sing Afternoon with VOCES8

An afternoon of fun music making with world renowned vocal ensemble, VOCES8. Come and take part in a massed choir singing event, learn some new vocal skills and songs and be part of a special concert with VOCES8 to finish the afternoon. Paul Smith says: ‘as a former student at Bedford School, and a founder member of VOCES8, I’m thrilled that we have been coming to lead singing activities at the school for nearly 10 years now’.

Bedford Sharps

A concert presented by the Bedford Sharps; an a cappella group formed in 2015 from upper school students. This is their second public concert since their first concert last year. This year the group collaborates with Bedford School’s Jazz Trio as they perform numbers together. Much of the music is arranged by members and friends of the group; an eclectic mix of songs ranging from 60s hits to American spirituals.

An Evening with Carol Ann Duffy & John Sampson

Mesmerising words and atmospheric music combine in this collaboration between Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and musician John Sampson. Together, the pair bring an hour of light and shade, laughter and reflection. Carol Ann will read from her acclaimed collections and John will take us on a virtuoso tour of musical highlights of the past 500yrs.

Summer Bands Concert

The first of two major concerts in the Upper School, which will feature a delightful selection of music performed by the School Band, Dance Band, Brass Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. Choral & Orchestral Concert

This concert will feature the Chapel Choir performing the first half in the beautiful surroundings of the School Chapel, followed by a second half in the Great Hall. Performances will be given by the Second Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and the First Orchestra which will conclude the concert in patriotic style with movements from Elgar’s Enigma Variations and the Pomp & Circumstance March No.1 (including ‘Land of Hope and Glory’)!
