The main raison d’etre of the Society is to field a team to compete in the Halford Hewitt Competition, the world’s largest amateur foursomes golf tournament held every April at the Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports Golf Clubs in Kent.

About OB Golf Society

The Golf Society is the Old Bedfordians Club’s oldest sporting society, with a proud history of competition in prestigious tournaments. Notably, the Society has taken part in the Halford Hewitt for many years, reaching the Plate Final in 2023 and advancing to the Final the following year. It also competes in the Grafton Morrish and Mellin competitions, the latter being the flagship event for players over 55, held annually in May and July.

Beyond these major tournaments, the Society offers a full calendar of events for subscribing members. These include competitive matches against traditional rivals such as Bedford Modern and Oundle, friendly fixtures like the School Boys match and Foundation Day, as well as the Spring and Autumn Meetings. These gatherings take place at a variety of parkland and links courses, including Little Aston, Woburn, and Sheringham, offering members both challenge and camaraderie.

The Society is the only one to have a subscription, due on the 1st February every year, which mainly goes towards funding the entry fee for the Halford Hewitt. However, these are small and details are as follows:

  • Members aged over 25: £20 per annum
  • Members aged under 25: £10 per annum

The Society is always keen to hear from new and prospective members and is looking to grow so if you are interested in joining or would like more information, please contact the Secretary.
