Governance and Strategy

Community OB Club

The various groups involved with the BSA have their own governance structures which ensure that their relevant activities are appropriately overseen.

The Bedford School Association (BSA)

The importance of the BSA is highlighted by the fact that it is formally recognised as being part of the schools governance structure. Representatives of each of the constituent parts of the BSA are appointed as associate governors to the school and meet on a termly basis at the Committee meeting. The committee focusses on the relationship of the school and its community to ensure that they are mutually supportive of each other, above all else ensuring that the school and the education that each boy receives is of the highest quality.

The Old Bedfordians Club

The Club is a separate entity from the school with its own set of accounts and articles of association. It is governed by the Council, a formally elected group of OBs who oversee the overall operation of the Club, meeting as a group at least twice a year. The chair of the Council is the President, who is elected on a two-year term and is supported by the Treasurer and Director of the Club, who is also a member of the schools core management team.

The day to day operation of the Club alongside the OB office is delegated to the Executive committee, who are responsible for formulating and executing the Club’s strategic plan.

The Bedford School Foundation Trust (BSFT)

BSFT is a registered charity established to manage funds and property donated to Bedford School. Its primary purpose is to support the education of current and former pupils by providing scholarships, bursaries, and assistance with further education. Additionally, it contributes to the development of school facilities and activities. The Trust generates income mainly through donations, legacies, and investments. The BSFT is governed by a board of trustees, all of whom are connected to the school in one way or another.

The Prep and Parents Guild each operate under their own articles of association, with new committees appointed each academic year to oversee their activities.
