Two Fifth Form boys currently sitting their GCSE examinations have been awarded an early accolade in the form of a distinction in the second round of the prestigious Perse Coding Challenge.
Ali Khan and Mike Halahan were delighted to be awarded the top possible grade in the
competition, which attracts huge numbers of students from schools right across the UK. Over 2,500 students take part in the first round, with the top 600 of these progressing to the second round.
This year, 114 Bedford School boys from Y8 to the Fifth Form took part in the first round, with 29 of these boys going through.
During the challenge, students were required to use their coding skills to answer difficult questions in a competition against the highest echelon of GCSE computer science students in the country.
Mike explained, “This distinction has granted me the ability to gain further confidence going forward into my A-Levels and University Courses, which both include great amounts of computer science within them. The subject has provided me with a great opportunity to develop my skills within technology to advance in the way of the future; whilst it requires hard work, the delayed gratification of working for my future greatly appeals to me due to my interest in entrepreneurship – always seeking opportunity.”
Our Director of Digital Learning Mr Paul Scullion is constantly driving the school’s digital provision and curriculum forward, and commented, “I am hugely proud of Ali and Mike’s achievements and this really demonstrates their computational skills and team work. Over the coming year we plan to take this further with our own coding competitions and entering in the VEX robotics competitions to help support the stretch, challenge and technological curiosity in our curriculum.”
