Our Global Citizen Leaders kicked off our European Day of Languages celebrations with a brilliant assembly full of films, fun audio and lots of audience interaction on Wednesday.
The boys’ assembly celebrated the incredible variety of languages, not just in Europe but worldwide, and challenged boys to work out how many of them they recognised. Meanwhile, tongue twisters in foreign languages proved great fun.
The boys spoke eloquently about how language keeps us connected and how it celebrates diversity. And we were delighted to see and hear boys celebrating the languages they speak – watch here.
The boys also pointed out that learning a language also brings many benefits; it improves employment opportunities, improves mental health by dealing with stress and improves brain power.
On European Day of Languages, boys enjoyed exploring languages in lessons, from the Italian origins of many musical terms in Music to how geography can affect the sound of a language to how there is more to language than the words in Drama.
Boys also participated in a fun competition to design a t-shirt promoting languages and language learning. We will announce the winners next week.
