Victory was in the air for a group of Combined Cadet Force (CCF) cadets from Bedford School and Bedford Girls’ School who beat off stiff competition in the Army Cadets Intelligence Corps Competition to take first place and win the trophy.

The annual competition, held on 10 and 11 February at Bassingbourn Barracks, saw CCF units from across the country take part in an intense and challenging competition. Cadets were able to demonstrate skills they have been practising, which included shooting, map reading and cooking, as well as learning new skills outside of the Army Cadet Force syllabus.

Upper Sixth Former Sergeant Major Ciara Allen reflected on the success of winning the competition explaining, “Starting on Saturday morning we took part in several scored activities throughout the day that were set up for us. This included a sprint and shoot, survival stand and tank recognition as well as a fun unmarked paintball exercise. The competition also gave us the chance to learn and implement new skills such as map marking, where we used a selection of reports in various forms (of a fake scenario) to identify locations of enemy activity and had to predict their next move. This was new for all, but the team were eager to participate and worked together to formulate an excellent brief for the Commanding Officer, who was a regular in the British Army.”

All cadets thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were all delighted when the Bedford School and Bedford Girls’ School CCF was announced as this year’s winner.

Ciara went on to say, “Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major, James Barney and I were thrilled with this outcome and very proud of the effort put in by our team who faced every challenge with a unique approach and smiling faces.”

The Intelligence Corps Competition Team was made up of:

James Barney, Charlie Lawrence and Will Reddy from Bedford School.
Ciara Allen, Licia Cacioppo, Catherine Chaplin, Danae Karavaggelis and Haneha Kaur from Bedford Girls’ School.
