Our Y5 boys have been learning all about the exciting topic of castles for their latest History project.

Earlier in the term, the boys put their knowledge and extensive creative skills to excellent use, creating a whole range of incredibly detailed castle models, which they proudly shared with their classmates.

This week, the boys enjoyed a trip to Oakham Castle, which brought their studies vividly to life. During the fun day, they re-enacted the Battle of Stamford Bridge and the Battle of Hastings by dressing in the costume of the time and becoming part of the Norman, Saxon and Viking armies. They also had a workshop focusing on the tax system, crime and punishment, and where people settled during medieval times. Even their teachers got in on the act, helping to recreate these exciting periods of history.

It proved a real adventure in learning in a wonderfully historic setting.
