Brilliantly Collaborative VEX Robotics Competition

Brilliantly Collaborative VEX Robotics Competition

Excitement was running high on Thursday as teams from Heron Hall Academy, Roselands Primary in partnership with John Warner School, St Edmond’s College, Bedford Academy and Bedford Prep School came together for this year’s Robotics challenge: VEX Rapid Relay.

The most tricky but engaging competition yet saw the pupils working in collaborative teams with other schools.

Brilliant robots, careful control and great teamwork were all essential to score maximum points. Teams needed to hit a target with a ball and pass the ball between each other to score points.

In the run-up to the competition, each team built and coded their respective robots, resulting in some brilliant variations in designs and solutions. Our Prep School teams embraced the challenge, with many boys making the most of every opportunity to work on their robots, taking time out of their lunch breaks several times a week in the run-up to the competition to tweak and refine their bots.

It was a brilliant day for all, full of friendly competition, and we were delighted that the year’s event winners were a collaborative team between Roselands Primary and Bedford Prep School.

Speaking after the event, Kashta Dale, Head of Prep Computer Science at Bedford Prep School, told us, “The dedication and the keenness to work collaboratively, as well as the resilience demonstrated by all five schools, was what made the day so successful. Watching the teams rally behind and support each other was particularly heartwarming.”

Thank you to everyone involved, including our brilliant adjudicators from John Warner School and our very own Anson (Year 8).

“The students had a fantastic time, and it was great fun playing and collaborating with others.”

Chitra Shahani, Head of Computer Science from Bedford Academy
