Brilliant Cricket, Squash and Tetrathlon

Brilliant Cricket, Squash and Tetrathlon

Despite rain putting paid to a few fixtures this week, boys have enjoyed a brilliant couple of weeks of sport to wrap up the first half of the summer term.

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting Prep Schools from across the region at our annual Cricket Sixes tournament. The day was a resounding success, filled with fun, friendly, competitive matches, all in glorious sunshine. Congratulations go to Beachborough School, who clinched the tournament trophy with the last ball of the game against an equally brilliant Milton Keynes Prep School team, Aldwickbury School, who triumphed in the plate, and Beechwood Park School, who emerged victorious in the bowl.

Special mention must go to our boys who competed in the Sixes and showed impressive attitudes. Our B team were called up at the last minute to replace another school that could not make it. At the last minute, a school was reinstated, leaving 14 Bedford Prep School players on one team instead of seven. Rather than bemoaning having less opportunity to play, the boys were brilliant at ensuring everyone had a go and showed thoughtfulness and team spirit.

On Thursday, all Y3 boys travelled to Stamford for their first competitive cricket fixture for school. They won two and lost two of their matches but, importantly, enjoyed competitive cricket, proudly representing their school.

There have also been some brilliant successes in other sports. Four boys competed in the recent Bedfordshire Schools’ Individual Squash Tournament hosted at Bedford School. OB Sam Morris (pictured below), our OB Squash Representative and squash coach at Towers, organised the tournament.

Special congratulations go to Jack Nash (Y6), who won the Y5-Y6 title in a thrilling final that went down to the last game.

Hugo O’Boyle (Y6) showed he is a boy of many sporting talents when he not only came first in his age group at the Whaddon Chase Pony Club Tetrathlon competition (running, swimming and shooting) but also topped the overall table in the running–setting a personal best in the process.
