The Boarders’ Spring Dinner, now in its fifth year, has become a much‑anticipated highlight of the boarding calendar, and this year’s celebration was no exception. Held just ahead of the busy exam season, the evening offered our boarding community a wonderful opportunity to come together, relax and enjoy an evening of good company and shared experiences.
Our boarders, along with staff from each of the boarding houses, dressed to impress for the occasion, donning dinner jackets and bow ties for an event that felt both special and celebratory. The Great Hall, transformed into a cabaret‑style venue and dressed elegantly with black linen, set the tone for an evening that felt a little out of the ordinary and a welcome treat for the boys.
A buffet, prepared by our in‑school caterers Lodestone House, proved a particular highlight. With a wide variety of dishes on offer, boys were free to enjoy their favourites while circulating, chatting and making the most of the relaxed atmosphere.
Upper Sixth Former Ryan commented, “One of the most fun activities during the night was taking photos at the photo booth. It created a relaxed, playful atmosphere and captured special moments with friends. Events like these are so important – they bring people together for a night of good fun towards the end of term.”
Fellow Upper Sixth Former Kasper shared a similar sentiment, “I enjoyed talking with friends and also with people I don’t usually sit with. The whole evening encouraged socialising between different people and helped build lasting memories.”
Guests were treated to an engaging talk from Old Bedfordian Tim Bouscarle (01-06), co‑founder of Chilly’s water bottles. Tim spoke warmly about his time at Bedford School and shared insights into his career and recent ventures, offering inspiration and encouragement to boarders as they look ahead to their own futures.
Adding to the sense of fun, a lively game of bingo brought everyone together as one community. With every boy involved, the room buzzed with energy and good humour. The ever‑popular photo booth gave the evening an extra dimension of excitement, allowing boarders to capture the moment with keepsake photos they can treasure.
The Spring Dinner is a now cherished tradition, and this year’s celebration once again highlighted what makes boarding at Bedford School so special – a warm, inclusive community where friendships flourish, staff and pupils come together and memories are made that last long beyond the school years.
