Bedford vs Eton – A Proud Day

Bedford vs Eton – A Proud Day

Last weekend saw one of the most anticipated fixtures in the school rugby calendar — the annual block fixture against Eton College. With 16 matches played and nearly 280 boys involved, this was more than just a sporting event — it was a celebration of school spirit and the power of participation.

Eton, much like Bedford School, with a centuries-old legacy and strong rugby pedigree, always brings a formidable challenge. However, the boys rose to the occasion, delivering a superb set of performances across all age groups. The final tally — 12 wins, one draw, and just three losses — was a testament to the depth, talent and determination of our players.

Yet beyond the results, the real success lay in the quality of rugby and the spirit in which it was played. Every match was competitive, physical and respectful — a true reflection of the values shared by both schools. This fixture was not just about scores; it was about giving hundreds of boys the chance to represent their school, challenge themselves and be part of something bigger.

Senior Success

The senior teams led the charge with commanding displays. The 1st XV dazzled at home with a 48–10 win, powered by a hat-trick from Upper Sixth Former, Raff. The 2nd XV, 3rd XV, and 4th XV followed suit with strong victories, showcasing the strength in depth across the senior squads. Special mention goes to the 2nd XV centre pairing of Lower Sixth Formers Harry and Josh, who were a constant threat throughout.

U16s – Close Contests and Big Wins

The U16s delivered a mix of thrilling rugby and dominant wins. The U16As impressed with a 42–24 away win, while the U16C stormed to a 50–12 victory. The U16B match was one of the day’s tightest, with a narrow 13–12 loss in a game that could have gone either way.

U15s – Clean Sweep

Back on home ground, the U15s were on fine form. The A, B and C teams all posted emphatic wins (59–5, 54–5, and 50–0), while the D team edged a high-scoring thriller 50–36. It was a clean sweep for the age group, marked by flair, discipline and resilience.

U14s – Balanced and Competitive

The U14s delivered a wonderfully balanced set of fixtures. Wins for the A and E teams (40–7 and 25–0) were offset by narrow defeats for the B and C teams (12–15 and 19–22). The D team rounded things off with a spirited 17–17 draw.
