The Bedford School U16 Hockey team were crowned Regional
Champions on Tuesday 7 March.

The team qualified for the Triangular Final in the
championships held at the University of East Anglia after coming out top in
their extremely tough group of five schools.

The first triangular game against Bishops Stortford resulted
in a 3-0 win to the Bedford School boys thanks to two goals from Ben Roworth
and one from Charlie Axford. The team executed their game plan perfectly for
the deserved the win. A draw between Felsted and Bishops Stortford then put
Bedford in a strong position for the title and qualification for the national
finals.

Their second match against Felsted started scrappily, with
Will Kirkup needing to make an outstanding save to prevent Felsted scoring
before the Bedford boys got into the game.  A Tom Blythman drag flick took
them into the break 1-0 with all to play for.  Bedford carried on in the
second half where they left off:  goals from Charlie Axford, Ollie Dwight
and another for Tom Blythman took the score to 4-0. Despite a nervy finish, the
boys closed the game out well, finishing the match 4-1.

The team’s performance was excellent all the way up the
pitch, and they thoroughly deserved the regional championship win and
qualification for the U16 National Finals in April.
