The Bedford School Boat Club enjoyed its most successful day at Bedford Regatta for many years on Saturday 7th May 2016.

The sun was shining and the crowds out in force on the riverbank as our crews took to the water.  In a superb day of racing, crews from all year groups made finals, and impressively six won their events.

  • The 1st IV won Junior 18 fours – beating Abingdon in the final
  • The Colts won Novice 8s – beating Norwich in the final
  • The J14s won both the B and C octos – with both crews beating St Pauls in the final.
  • The J14s also won the B and C quads – beating Windsor Boys and St Pauls respectively

All the crews put in outstanding performances.  Indeed, the battle between our J14 D octo and St Pauls C octo, with the D octo losing by just a bow ball, was probably the race of the day.

The support from parents, boys, staff and OBs was also amazing.  Many thanks to the Friends of Bedford School Boat Club (FOBSBC) for manning the BBQ throughout the day and to all the parents, past parents and OBs who helped out in various ways, be it at the Start or Finish, collating results or marshalling vehicles.

A very special thank you must, in particular, go to Hugh (73-83) and Rachel Maltby for everything that they do every year to make the day such a success.
