Bedford Prep Boys Influence the Future of AI

Bedford Prep Boys Influence the Future of AI

Saffal Jethwa (Year 7), Gene Baker, Nikhil Das Gupta and Henry Hillier (Year 8) were honoured to attend the world’s first Children’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit, hosted by The Alan Turing Institute at Queen Mary University of London this week.

The boys, who are all Digital Leaders in the Prep School, jumped at the chance to discuss and explore the impact of AI on their lives and how they can influence its future at the summit.

During the summit, children and young people aged 8 to 18 presented their thoughts and findings on AI. Young innovators also showcased projects using AI to make a difference in areas like medicine and educational games.

The day was made more exciting by the chance to play with various bots,  Lego and micro:bit devices. There were also live performances by the National Youth Theatre, who performed poems and plays about and even some including AI.

Excitingly, and most importantly, the thoughts and ideas put forward by the boys and the pupils in attendance will go towards creating a children’s manifesto on the future of AI, which will be presented at the AI Action Summit next week.

Mrs Dale explained, “AI will have a huge impact on the boys’ education, careers and lives, so it is brilliant that their voices, and those of children across the UK, were heard at the summit and are being taken into account to help to shape the future of AI.”

The boys had a brilliant day and left buzzing with ideas, not to mention goodies from Lego and other exhibitors.

Henry Hiller, Year 8, commented, “It was a great day and hopefully the first of many to come.” We agree!

Digital Technology

At Bedford Prep School, we recognise that the world boys enter on leaving school is becoming increasingly digitised, and so it is vital that their education mirrors this and builds skills to complement its requirements.
