Northamptonshire U17’s played two T20
matches against a full strength England Women’s team, ahead of their three
Ashes matches, at the ECB National Performance Centre, Loughborough University.
A mixed age group side was assembled by the Northants coaches that included
U17, U16 & U15 County players, including our very own 1st XI opening bowler
Charlie Clarke and opening batsman Jake Duxbury.  U15 Emilio Gay was also
included in the line up.

In the first match Charlie opened the
bowling to England captain Charlotte Edwards and Lauren Winfield, also bowling
the last overs against Sarah Taylor and Natalie Sciver. Although wicketless he
returned figures of 0-25 off his 4 overs, thus being the most economical pace
bowler on the day. The ladies achieving a narrow 10 run victory with their
157-2.

On the second day the England Women’s
side posted an impressive 167-5 off their 20 overs. Charlie Clarke again being
the most frugal bowler on the day (0-18). In reply Jake Duxbury opened the
batting and shared a first wicket partnership of 59 (19 off 16 balls),
including hitting Danielle Hazell (world ranked #1 bowler) for a six- before
she got him out LBW on the next ball.  In an exciting match that ebbed and
flowed, Charlie Clarke steadied the ship coming in at number 7 with a few overs
to go (17 off 14 balls) and the game ended in an entertaining tie.

The matches proved excellent
preparation as the England Women’s side went on to win their first T20 match
against Australia at Chelmsford.
