A huge congratulations to James Kendall (00-03) and his team ‘All Beans No Monkey’ on crossing the finish line of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, known as the world’s toughest row, in the early hours of 3rd February 2016. The four-man team came a respectable sixth in the overall race, beating 19 other teams to the finish line in Antigua.

All Beans No Monkeys took on the arduous challenge to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the RNLI, and have raised over £20,000 already. It took the team 44 days 20 hours and 22 minutes.

According to the team, those 3000 miles of arduous rowing were the same distance as over 170 million Jelly Beans laid end to end!

The team all met at Newcastle University Boat Club and their name derives from the club motto for laying all efforts on the line and making no mistakes. Since their University days the team have moved on to industries including surveying and engineering, and skipper James continues to work on his sea legs as a skipper for boats in the Mediterranean. This achievement is a testament not only to their hard working attitude, but their friendship too.
