The school athletics team has had a very busy week.

Radley College and Oakham School Relays

The Radley College Relays were shortly followed by the Oakham School Relays. All boys gave their all and there were many strong performances.

The inter boys 4 x 400 metre quartet of Stephen Simmons, Harry Dowrick, Alfie Warnock and Sam Dicks dominated the race from the first leg, winning by a comfortable margin.

The inter and senior 4 x 100 metre teams were both edged out of first place in their two exciting races full of slick changeovers. However, the event that gives competitors a huge sense of achievement and is arguably the one everyone really wants to win is the ‘dreilauf’.  In the dreilauf, three runners continually pass the baton around the track for five minutes with the aim of achieving the greatest distance by the end. The senior team of Adam Foat, Ryan Apps and Ed Blythman executed their game plan to perfection and stormed to victory in a very strong field.

Beds Schools Combined Events Championships

The inter boys’ quartet of David Adeyemi, Maxwell Martin, Alex Edun and Caleb Sanders performed quite brilliantly in the Beds Combined events to finish a very close second place. The most pleasing element of their efforts was how they worked as a team, supporting one another to maximise their performance outcomes. It was a tall order to catch the lead team in the final event, the 1500 metres, but they nearly made the seemingly impossible possible through sheer determination and very well executed race tactics. A fantastic and inspiring effort from all involved!
