About

The main raison d’etre of the Society is to field a team to compete in the Halford Hewitt Competition, the world’s largest amateur foursomes golf tournament held every April at the Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports Golf Clubs in Kent.

Take a look at this spreadsheet containing a record of every individual, pairing and match the OBGS has ever played in the Hewitt!

A prestigious Old Boys competition played on a scratch basis, no school has opted out of it for over 50 years. The Society also enters the Grafton Morrish and Mellin Competitions held every May and July, the latter being the over 55’s version of the Halford Hewitt and is their flagship event in the Calendar.

The remaining events are available to all subscribing members and include a number of competitive matches against old rival schools such as Bedford Modern and Oundle, fun meets like the fixture against the School Boys and the Foundation Day plus the Society’s Spring and Autumn Meetings, taking in a variety of parkland and links courses from Little Aston to Woburn to Sheringham in the process.

The Society is the only one to have a subscription, due on the 1st February every year, which mainly goes towards funding the entry fee for the Halford Hewitt. However, these are small and as details are as follows:

  • Members aged over 25: £10 per annum
  • Members aged under 25: £5 per annum

The Society is always keen to hear from new and prospective members and is looking to grow so if you are interested in joining or would like more information, please contact the Secretary.
