An Evening in Westminster

An Evening in Westminster

The OB Club Office were delighted to receive an invitation from Matthew Orr (75-81) to attend a reception announcing the winner of this year’s Robson Orr TenTen Award.

Matthew and his wife, Sybil Robson Orr, are leading philanthropists who support the award.  TenTen is a 10-year project, in collaboration with the Government Art Collection, which commissions a British artist each year to create a limited-edition print.  Fifteen of these are then put on display in diplomatic buildings, while the sale of 11 editions help raise funds for the collection to support emerging artists in Britain.

The award’s evening took place at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in Westminster on Tuesday 8th October.  Freddie Peacock (10-21), Louis Cooke (19-24), Jean ‘Jacques’ Bell (06-17) and John Holroyd (11-16), all of whom studied ‘A’ Level Art under Mr Croker and Mrs Whiteman, were excited to join Bev from the BSA team at the reception.  Despite there being nearly two hundred guests at the event, Matthew was able to take time to speak with the boys, as did his brother Roderick Orr (71-75)

Freddie, an artist studying at Central St Martins, Louis an apprentice at Christie’s, along with John and Jacques, both Architects, were thrilled to be able to soak up the atmosphere of the event which was held in such prestigious surroundings.  The evening kicked off Frieze London, a leading contemporary art fair that showcase galleries, artists and curators from around the world.

We are really looking forward to welcoming Matthew and Sybil back to the school later in the academic year where they will be the Judging Art entries in the Detweiler Competition.  The Detweiler is the highlight of the Creative Arts calendar in which prizes are awarded in four different categories: Art, Music, Drama and Creative Writing.
