As we celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday today, we thought we’d mark the occasion by looking back at her visit to Bedford 40 years ago.

On May 11th 1976, The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness, Prince Philip came to Bedford Modern School where she unveiled a plaque commemorating her visit and, together with the Duke, toured the new Buildings. To conclude her visit she was introduced to four senior monitors from Bedford School, Mark Scrivens (67-76), Mark Lloyd-Williams (68-76), David Murray (69-76) and Kristian Bouveng (72-76). This special occasion has stayed with the men ever since, and Mark was kind enough to send in this great photo of the four of them meeting Her Royal Highness.
