We are delighted to announce that talented young actor Daniel Lee (Y6) will be on screens this Friday in a haunting tale for Halloween.
Starring as Billy Hodgson in The Enfield Poltergeist on Apple TV+ from 27 October, Daniel is a key cast member in this fascinating and chilling four-part series that tells the tale of this famous poltergeist case from the 1970s using original audio recordings made inside the house as the events unfolded.
We advise that parents make their own checks for younger pupils.
Daniel explained that working with the original recordings added new complexity to filming, as all the cast needed to wear earpieces so that they could lipsync to them and react to the tale as it unfolded. An effect that The Guardian says is “a masterstroke: it makes the voices captured on tape feel like hauntings, ghostly in themselves.”
Daniel was just nine when he took part in the filming, which lasted for 17 days, but was undaunted by the challenge or the spooky content as the cast and crew around him were brilliant.
On a festive, fun note, we are also pleased to say that Daniel is set to appear in Elf, the Musical, this Christmas – the youngest in the cast. He, along with three other boys, will play the role of Michael Hobbs in the upbeat musical at the Dominion Theatre in the West End from 15 November to 7 January.
Rehearsals have just started for the festive musical, which will be Daniel’s first comedy. Over the coming weeks, Daniel will be busy perfecting his New York accent as well as learning his lines, not to mention the many songs and dances ready for opening night.
It is clear that Daniel has a talent and passion for both stage and screen. Nonetheless, as he explained, the audition process is a challenging one. While Daniel has enjoyed great success over the last few years, like any actor, he has found that there are lots of roles that were just not meant to be. However, Daniel is very prosaic about the process, saying, “You have to keep believing in yourself and believe it will happen, but after each audition, you have to put it behind you and move on.” Sound advice.
