All of our 6 senior day houses offer a safe place to see friends and relax at break times, store bags in lockers, change for Games and meet to organise House Teams. Each house is a tight knit team with the Housemaster, Tutors and Matron committed to the boys in their care. Day houses have full recreational facilities including a common room, games’ room and locker room. There is a kitchen area in each house where 6th Form boys can make themselves snacks and drinks and the houses are equipped with pool tables, TVs and games’ consoles. The house community thrives and develops through its involvement in inter house competitions, paintballing, plays, quizzes and celebrations. The Housemaster and Matron visit their day house each day to allow each individual to speak to them about academic and pastoral issues. House Assemblies are held each week to organise competitions, reward participants and foster house spirit.
We know that school life can be difficult at times, and that sometimes you might feel worried about something. Every member of the house team shares our aim of creating a supportive atmosphere and is happy to have a chat whenever you need it – we’re all on your side, and we’re all here to help. You might feel most comfortable sharing your worries with one of our friendly Matron, with your Tutor or with the Housemaster – it’s up to you, and we will stop at nothing to help make you feel better.
Our Pastoral Care philosophy is guided by principles which we believe complement the overall ethos of the School. Boys are treated as equals, regardless of ability, religion, culture, ethnic origin or class and are encouraged to show tolerance and understanding towards others. We provide the right conditions for boys to develop their intellectual talents through a managed environment and atmosphere which values effort and is conducive to work. The firm and enduring relationships which exist between staff and boys bear testimony to the process and are a pivotal influence in its success.
The Housemaster’s door is always open. Working closely with Tutors and Matron, each Housemaster stays in regular contact with parents, guiding the development, safety and welfare of the boys.
