Bedford School is located on the northern side of Bedford town centre. It is essential when approaching the School to avoid the town centre, and visitors are recommended to use the town map in conjunction with the instructions below.
The main entrance to the School is located off De Parys Avenue. Once through the gates, you will be on Burnaby Road.
Parking
We have on site parking close to the theatre and at the main entrance. For picking up or dropping off at the theatre entrance, please take care of predestrians making their way from the car parks.
By Road
From London and the south via the M1 Motorway
Leave the M1 motorway at junction 13 and join the A421 which leads to the edge of town. Pick up the A6 and follow the pale blue route along Ampthill Road, Rope Walk, A5140 (old A418) Longholme Way, Newnham Avenue, Polhill Avenue, Park Avenue, De Parys Avenue and then into the School via Burnaby Road.
From Milton Keynes and from the North via M1 Motorway Junction 14
Enter the town along the A428. Go straight ahead at the mini double roundabouts. At the traffic lights turn left onto Union Street. At the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Roff Avenue. Continue until you reach the next roundabout where you should take the 2nd exit onto Park Avenue. Take the first right onto De Parys Avenue. Enter the School via Burnaby Road.
From the North - Wellingborough and the A6
Enter the town along the A6 and Clapham Road. At the 2nd roundabout turn left into Roff Avenue. At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Park Avenue and then take the first right onto De Parys Avenue. Enter the School via Burnaby Road.
From the East - Cambridge and the A1
Turn off the A1 onto the A421 at the Black Cat Roundabout. This road later joins the A428 at the roundabout on the outskirts of Bedford. The A428 runs into Goldington Road. At the junction with Newnham Avenue and Polhill Avenue, (next to the multi-storey tower block of De Montford University) turn right into Polhill Avenue. At the end of Polhill Avenue you will come to some traffic lights (opposite the Park Hotel). Turn right at these lights and take an immediate left into Park Avenue. Continue along Park Avenue until you come to the turning for De Parys Avenue. Go down De Parys and enter the School via Burnaby Road.
From Luton Airport
Join the M1 at junction 10. Exit the M1 at Junction 13 and proceed as above from the M1 South into Bedford.
By Train
The Thameslink line runs from Brighton through to Bedford, passing through Gatwick Airport, London Kings Cross and Luton Airport. The Midlands Main Line also goes via Bedford through to London. The School is just a 15-20 minute walk away from the train station but we recommend that you take a taxi.
By Taxi from Bedford Station
Taxis can be hired from the forecourt of the train station. Clarification of the School's address (De Parys Avenue) will help avoid confusion which can result from the existence of several schools in Bedford bearing similar names. The journey time should take around 10 minutes depending on traffic.
