An excellent range of facilities

Bedford School has an excellent range of sports facilities available to hire. The Recreation Centre located on the main school campus offers a 25-metre swimming pool, a large sports hall and four squash courts. Bedford School also has extensive playing fields and two AstroTurf pitches at the remote Gordon Fields site on Brickhill Drive. 

Club user or individual, we can cater for you!

We have many regular customers; in fact, many of the clubs and associations using our facilities have become well-established over a number of years. We are also able to cater for individuals. Our Squash Club allows members to use our courts on a regular basis and offers tremendous value for money. If you’re a keen squash player, why not consider joining. 

Sports Hall

Our large sports hall is highly versatile and offers a wide range of different activities. The hall has a multi-play plastic rubber flooring specifically designed for sports use. The soft floor is non-slip and helps to prevent injuries from occurring. The floor is marked up for the following sports. The table below lists how many of each type of court are available.

An electronic scoreboard is available in the sports hall, useful for competitive events. The hall also has a gallery, which is marked out for fencing.

All Weather Pitches

There are two full-sized all-weather hockey pitches at the Gordon Fields on Brickhill Drive. This facility is of an excellent standard and offers flood-lighting on one pitch and access to the changing rooms and pavilion. The pitches are ideal for adult 5-a-side football and junior league practice as well as for hockey. The AstroTurf is also set up for tennis in the summer months, and we offer 12 courts on each pitch. Demand for an all-weather practice area over the winter months is high, and early booking is recommended.

Swimming Pool

Our 25-metre swimming pool is available for group hire or private parties. Hire is usually exclusive to an individual group, and this allows for a maximum of 50 swimmers. There are male and female changing rooms and a limited number of lockers external to the changing facilities. There is also a large seating area for spectator viewing on one side of the pool.

Conditions of Use

A qualified lifeguard must be on duty at all times during the hire period. The lifeguard is usually provided by us (with the exception of Scuba Diving, who can provide their own). As the hirer, you are responsible for the safety and behaviour of all people within your party.
