The School Council is a vital part of the Preparatory School, enabling pupils to have a voice and to understand that their opinions matter.
Boys are elected to the Council by their classmates in the first half of the Autumn term. Interested boys submit a election manifesto, outlining the reasons why they feel they would make a good reprentative to the Council. They also make a short election speech to their class. Once elected, boys may hold one of a number of roles within the Council: Chairman, Vice-chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. These positions of responsibility change termly.
The School Council is wholly student-run with teacher advisors assisting as and when necessary. The boys produce the agenda as well as the minutes and any action points. In this way, the Council provides a basis for learning important life skills, such as speaking and listening, teamwork, emotional literacy, problem-solving, moral reasoning, self-esteem and self confidence.
