Competing Introduction

The School has an enviable sporting reputation, and games and physical education are fundamental elements of the curriculum. With the fitness, well-being and enjoyment of each boy promoted through a wide programme of sports, we aim to inspire in our boys, from their earliest years, a lifelong interest in sport.

Rugby, hockey and cricket are the main games, but boys can participate in a number of other sports including football, athletics, cross country, swimming, tennis, basketball, squash, badminton, fencing and rowing. In physical education, boys receive tuition in gymnastics, swimming and a variety of indoor sports. The excellent facilities available for the sports programme are complemented by the expertise of the teaching and coaching staff of both the Preparatory and Upper Schools.

Teams and individuals from the Prep School participate fully and very successfully in the local, regional and national sporting scene with inter-school fixtures at all age groups and across a range of abilities. Our aim is to give as many boys as possible the opportunity to represent their School. House matches provide additional competition and generate considerable support, excitement and, most importantly, enjoyment.
