Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship form part of the tutor programme in all years throughout the School. Its aims are to develop confidence and responsibility, prepare the boys to play an active role as citizens, develop a healthy and safe lifestyle and to develop good relationships, respecting the differences between people.
The programme is delivered by form tutors during a short weekly session and also during PSHE mornings, where the normal School timetable is suspended and replaced with PSHE sessions. In addition to delivery by the tutor during these mornings, speakers with expertise and experience in a particular area may assist in the delivery of the programme.
As well as Citizenship, topics covered in PSHE sessions include Health Education, Drugs and Alcohol Education and Sex and Relationships Education, including friendships and bullying.
A range of teaching and learning styles are employed which include:
• Role play
• Group work
• Circle time
The PSHE and Citizenship curriculum is also supported by the general ethos of the school. We value the importance of its pastoral role in the welfare of its pupils and seek to encourage and develop young people’s learning and ensure support appropriate to their needs is provided.
