Mathematics in Bedford Prep School is a popular and high profile subject with boys achieving high standards. Our schemes of work are based on the National Curriculum and frequently go beyond what is required for each Key Stage. A variety of teaching materials are used to develop the boys’ knowledge and understanding.
In Years 3 and 4 Mathematics is taught by the class teacher using mainly the Mathematics Enhancement Programme (MEP). During Years 5 and 6 boys are taught either by their form teacher or a maths specialist. The work is tailored accordingly. When the boys transfer to Years 7 and 8 they are taught by Maths specialist.
The Prep School takes part in National Mathematics competitions with a large number of boys gaining awards in the Primary and Junior Mathematics Challenges. Each year there are boys who score in the top 10% of entrants thus allowing them to enter for the next round of the Challenges.
