Drama

Drama is taught in its own right as a curriculum subject to Year 8 boys. Boys in Years 3 – 7 experience drama opportunities in many other curriculum subjects and there is an especially close link with English, where drama activities feature regularly within lessons.

The Year 8 Drama curriculum aims to give boys an introduction to and a grounding in a range of basic drama skills and techniques before they progress to the Upper School. Boys develop cooperation, control, confidence and have the chance to be creative and expressive.

Our aim is to also provide access to extra-curricular drama opportunities. Drama clubs and activities for all ages are offered by a number of teaching staff and the focus is very much on fostering an inclusive enjoyment and appreciation of this art form. Boys respond well to performing in Evenings of Words and Drama and there are regular drama performances in assemblies.

A speech and drama specialist also offers the opportunity for boys with a specific interest and aptitude to work towards examinations.

Visits to School by the Young Shakespeare Company and occasional theatre visits both inspire and engage the boys.

We are trying to develop in our pupils:
• enthusiasm
• enjoyment
• expression
• confidence
• creativity
• cooperation
