The ultimate aim of Art at Bedford Prep School is to facilitate and encourage visual communication through a process of investigation, exploration, development, realisation and evaluation. Our lessons strive to push all boys so they have key skills that help them both in and outside an art room.
Our modern approach to the subject means that we strike a balance between the production of a final aesthetic form, the skills gained from that production and the development of a pupil’s ability to discuss, analyse and reflect upon that final form. Through this complete activity of making art boys become creative, independent and successful learners.
The Department is situated on the light drenched top floor of the Wells Building. Each studio is fully equipped for the production of two and three dimensional works of art. We also have the luxury of an onsite kiln and all boys have a ceramic topic during the academic year.
Outside of the academic timetable all boys are encouraged to participate in various creative activities and clubs that enrich their general learning from architectural design problems to pot throwing, we aim to offer something to inspire all pupils.
