Exploring Books

Bedford School Exploring Books with local community schools

We have had another successful year going in to local schools to do exploring book sessions. This year we extended the scheme to include Middle Schools as well; visiting Daubeney Middle, St Gregory’s, Goldington Academy, Lincroft and Harrold Middle School and we hope to extend the book collection to include more books for this age range. We also returned to Willington Lower and Springfield Lower as well as visiting St Lawrence Lower and Roxton for the first time.

The purpose of the visits is to support literacy and books and reading in these schools by introducing six book titles and then leaving multiple copies for the classes to read and explore over a six week period. The schools have used books to do reviews, paired reading and even encourage story writing. Where possible we return to the school when we collect the books and talk to the pupils about the books and they are usually very lively sessions. This year favourite books included Spy Dog, Mr Gum, Traction Man, The incredible Book Eating Boy, The Whisperer and Kaspar.
