Introduction to Sports
Bedford has an enviable sporting tradition stretching back over two centuries and our facilities more than live up to this legacy. A superb twin Astroturf complex with floodlights, an indoor 25 metre swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, a climbing wall, immaculate grass pitches and well-equipped Recreation Centre combine to provide the first class facilities from which many international players have emerged. In addition, the School enjoys strong links with several local sports clubs including the town's athletics Club and Bedford Rugby Club.
Almost all staff are involved in School sport at different levels and all boys are expected to take part. We aim to inspire students with a lifelong interest in sport and the well-being and fitness of each boy is promoted through a wide programme.
The major sports played are rugby, hockey, cricket and rowing but the range of sports extends to archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, canoeing, cross-country, fencing, fives, golf, rock-climbing, sailing, soccer, squash, swimming, tennis, water polo and weight training. With so much scope, all can find something they enjoy, whatever their ability, and many find themselves excelling in a sport they would not otherwise have thought of trying. The School's aim is to enthuse each boy and to maximise whatever potential he possesses.

In Partnership with Northampton Saints
|
The link with Northampton Saints continues to go from strength to strength with close involvement taking place between the Club and the School in a number of areas. Last season's 1st XV Captain and England Schools cap James Ingle has just signed professional terms with the club and current 1st XV fly-half Jamie Elliott (England U18 and U16) has already played for the ‘Wanderers’ this season. Several other current 1st XV players are currently part of the Junior Saints Academy squad. There are also players in each age group who attend the England Player Development Group and ‘Schools of Rugby’ sessions at the Saints. Academy coach Grant Seely also coaches at the School on a regular basis. |
