Preparatory School Entrance Procedure

The entrance procedure to the Preparatory School is held during the Spring term. The object is to establish a boy’s readiness to cope with the academic and social demands of the School, and to ensure that he will be happy with us.

The procedure for each of the different age groups is outlined below

1. All boys sitting for 7+ and 8+ entry will be invited for a classroom visit during the latter part of the Christmas Term or at the start of the Spring Term.
2. An informal activities morning which has the aim of getting candidates acquainted with each other and the School.
3. The formal element of the procedure involves standardised tests of English, Maths, Reading and underlying ability.

The assessment and appraisal of the candidate which comes direct from the Head of his present school is of great value and taken into account in the assessment process.

Once registered, if a child does not gain entry in one year, he may repeat the entrance procedure in future years.
