Community Service Unit
The Community Service Unit enables boys to gain an insight into the circumstances and needs of members of the community outside the School, through contact with people of different generations and social groups. Boys may be assigned to an elderly person with whom they form a personal relationship by visiting and doing a range of odd jobs including gardening and shopping. Older boys might give assistance at Lower Schools, by taking younger children for games, helping slow learners with basic skills or running computing, drama or music. Other boys may visit a residence for the elderly, help out in one of Bedford’s charity shops, or assist handicapped people, either in a school or at the local horse riding centre for disabled children. In all these activities, they have the opportunity to look beyond themselves and to focus on the needs of others.
