2010 Astronomy Courses

Bedford School is running a series of short courses in Astronomy at the Observatory and Planetarium during 2010.
Each course will run for three evenings and will introduce the subject for anyone with an interest to learn more about the night sky. If the weather is clear there will be an emphasis on using a range of telescopes for observation. Each course will also include a Planetarium show giving details of the night sky visible from Bedford throughout the course of the year.

At the end of each course there will be an option to join the Bedford Astronomical Society should you wish to take your interest further.

Course 1: Monday March 1st, 8th and 15th 7.00-8.30pm
This course is primarily for Adults but can include any accompanied school students from Year 9 (age 13) and above.

Course 2: Tuesday March 2nd, 9th and 16th 7.00-8.30pm
This course is for School students from Year 9 and above.
No adults will be included in this course.

Course 3: Monday November 15th, 22nd and 29th 7.00-8.30pm
This course is for school students from Year 9 and above.
No adults will be included in this course.

Course 4: Tuesday November 16th, 23rd and 30th 7.00-8.30pm
This course is primarily for Adults but can include any accompanied School students from Year 9 and above.

Each course will be given by members of the Bedford School Observatory staff who all have CRB enhanced clearance and many years experience of teaching Astronomy to members of the public of all ages.

There are no course requirements or fees. All that is needed is an interest to learn about the night sky and plenty of warm clothes to wear on chilly observing evenings.

Each group should meet at the Observatory gate on Pemberley Avenue, not the main School entrance, at 6.55pm. Directions and further details can be found at www.bedfordschool.org.uk/observatory

Bookings for each course must be made via email: enterprises@bedfordschool.org.uk - please ensure that you include your name and which course you are interested in on the email. School students please also state the name of your school. Your information will not be used in any way other than the purpose of contact for these courses.

These courses are not intended for those younger than Year 9 who will find suitable courses available via the Frontiers Club.

Please note smoking is not permitted anywhere on the School estate.
