Community Projects
Bedford School is proud to have forged strong links with the community and regularly offers its facilities to external groups on a charitable basis. Local Scout groups annually use the Great Hall and grounds at Bedford School for the famous St. George’s Day Parade.
Local Brownie and Guide groups also visit Bedford School to experience the solar system as seen from the observatory and planetarium and be taught by Bedford School’s resident astronomer.
The Philharmonia Orchestra, for the past two years, have used the School’s state-of-the-art Music School to give free of charge Music Workshops to local children.
Bedford School is pleased to be able to invite the public to Arts events throughout the year. Bedford School’s strong tradition of musical excellence means that the boys enjoy performing in weekly lunchtime concerts to which the public are invited. Termly exhibitions organised by the Art Department of both boys’ and renowned artists’ works are enjoyed and well attended by the local community.
Bedford School extends membership of its Sports Club to members of the local community who are able to use the fitness suite, playing fields, all weather surfaces and swimming pool. The School grounds are used during the holidays to host sport-based holiday courses which are open to all. The summer of 2009 gave local children the opportunity to be coached by Andrew ‘Freddy’ Flintoff and annual rugby courses are hosted at Bedford School in conjunction with the Northampton Saints training squad.
Members of the School community participate in events to raise money for a number of charities. Full details are in the Charities Update section.
