The aim of our scholarship scheme is simple:  to identify boys of outstanding talent, to give them access to a Bedford School education regardless of means and to nurture that talent once they are at the School.

Always committed to innovation and opportunity, Bedford School is offering generous funding in recognition of academic, music or sporting potential to provide a wealth of opportunities for boys, irrespective of background.

Awards are available for boys entering the School at 11, 13 and 16 years.  Please register by 31st December 2010.

Awards & Scholarships

To be considered for an award, boys will first sit tests that have been developed, uniquely for the School, by Durham University’s Department of Education. These secure tests, which will be taken on-line here at the School, will measure true academic potential as opposed to current ability. The tests are designed to be taken by students from any background, irrespective of the school they previously attended and are uncoachable.

The essential features of the scheme are:

•  All Scholarship and Bursary funding has been combined in one coherent set of awards.
•  Awards will be available for candidates entering at 11+, 13+ and 16+.
•  All candidates at 11+ and 13+ will sit ‘The Bedford Test’, a test of academic potential which has been developed in collaboration with 
   Durham University.
•  Scholarships worth 10% fee remission will be awarded on merit. All other awards will be means tested.
•  Music and Sports awards will be available and will be subject to additional specific assessments.
