These courses offer our students the opportunity to improve their English, whatever their level, from beginner to advanced. They will also study science or maths and ICT, all in a group of no more than six children. Many summer course children use their time at the Study Centre to prepare themselves for their UK school start in September; many return home after three or six memorable weeks.
Each three-week course includes 24 lessons a week, which means that altogether there are 36 hours of English and 18 hours of science or maths and ICT. All staff are subject specialists with qualifications and experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language.
For 2014, the courses run 13 July-2 August and 3-23 August. The fee, of £3,210 for three weeks, is fully inclusive: airport transfers, all meals and accommodation, trips, laundry - everything except pocket money for ice-creams and postcards and a present for Mum.
There is a full programme of trips and activities: sports and swimming two afternoons a week, and something different every Wednesday afternoon – a quiz, a cycling trip, perhaps an art activity. Every Saturday and Sunday has a full day trip, taking advantage of our ideal location close to London, Cambridge and Oxford. Some trips have an educational focus while others, for example to Drayton Manor Theme Park, are entirely for fun.
Students may attend one or both courses. They live in the Study Centre and enjoy all the facilities of Bedford School. The age range is 10-16 years. The maximum capacity of the Study Centre is 30 students, our small size making us an ideal first step into UK education.
