Join us for a specially commissioned production exploring and celebrating the rich history of Bedford and its most famous citizens as we take a stroll through 850 years of Bedfords past.
The plays title Somewhere in England (The Bedford Play), is a reference to the BBCs live broadcasts from Bedford (and particularly Bedford School) during the Second World War. The towns true identity had to remain a secret to avoid being bombed by Hitlers Luftwaffe and so the broadcasts were always announced as being live from somewhere in England. The play uncovers the lives of key Bedfordians, its connections with famous people and the stories behind some of the towns iconic landmarks.
Written and directed by Mark Burgess, the play will be performed by professional actors and will also have a live orchestra.
The play has been commissioned by The Harpur Trust as part of its 450th anniversary celebrations in 2016.
