Forty OBs, partners, former staff and friends of the School joined local DVP Martin Ashley (56-65) for a most enjoyable trip to the Higgins on Tuesday 23rd February. Thank you to Don Gillet and David Fletcher (58-69) from the Friends of the Higgins for helping to coordinate the event, and to Tom Perrett, Head of the Higgins, for hosting us and for giving such an informative talk.

The evening kicked off with a reception before we moved through to the Turner Watercolours Exhibition. This is the first occasion that all the nine Turners owned by the Higgins have been shown together. It was fascinating to learn more about the life of JMW Turner (1775-1851) and to see how his painting evolved and to understand what influenced his style. He was well travelled, and in his day he was viewed as being quite controversial; he was secretive when working and clearly had some interesting relationships with his various patrons.

The Higgins opened in June 2013 after a major refurbishment bringing together the Cecil Higgins Gallery, Bedford Museum, and Bedford Gallery. Find out more here.
