        Welcome to Bedford Prep

The years from age 7 to 13 are a special time for any boy.

A time to discover. A time to explore. A time to excel.

At Bedford Prep School we give our boys ample opportunity to develop in a vibrant and stimulating environment, which is shaped both by tradition and the exciting possibilities of the modern world.

Our teachers care deeply about their pupils and provide an exciting and stimulating curriculum. Whether it’s music and the arts, science and technology, language and literature, or sports and games, boys are encouraged to learn new skills and embrace new experiences.

And while our academic traditions are very important to us, so is making sure that every boy reaches his full potential, builds his self-confidence and makes friends for life.

        Bedford Prep Highlights

We have high expectations of our boys, and support them with everything they need to fulfil their potential.

A broad curriculum covers all academic fundamentals. English, Maths and Science are at its core. Boys are taught French, Geography, History, Design Technology, Art, Music and Religious Education as separate subjects from the age of 7 with opportunities to learn Spanish, German and Latin from 11 years old. ICT skills are developed by means of a combination of taught lessons and an overall cross-curricular approach.

Music and arts play a big part in school life. Boys can choose to learn a variety of instruments and have the chance to play and sing together in a variety of bands, orchestras, ensembles and choirs. Our theatre makes the perfect home for drama productions, some of which are staged jointly with girls from Bedford Girls’ School.

Rugby, Hockey and Cricket are our main sports and games, and and the vast majority of boys play competitive fixtures against other schools. Boys can also enjoy and play competitive fixtures in a range of other sports: Football, Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, Tennis, Basketball, Squash, Badminton, Gymnastics, Swimming, Fencing and Rowing. We share the impressive sports facilities with the Upper School and benefit from expert sports coaching from experienced teachers.

        Bedford Prep Admissions
We recognise that choosing a school for your son is one of the biggest decisions you will have to make. We'd like to make it as easy as possible for you to apply, and want you to feel confident that you have made the right choice.
You are invited to visit the school as many times as you’d like before applying, either with or without your son. We hold regular open mornings, or you may prefer to come on an individual visit, which will usually include a meeting with the Head of the Prep School, so that you can discuss your son’s individual educational needs.

We are always happy to talk you through the admissions process as you begin this journey with us for your son. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Admissions Team.

        Welcome to Bedford School

For boys between the ages of 13 and 18, we offer the opportunity of a lifetime.

The chance to explore their abilities and their world in an inspiring and supportive environment that takes into account their own needs and talents.

From the classroom to the sports field, in laboratories and theatres, on excursions and exchanges, they will be challenged academically, socially and culturally. They will benefit from our dedicated and highly qualified staff, and outstanding facilities. They will learn exciting new skills and knowledge, and how to prepare themselves for a successful future.

We pride ourselves on our strong academic results. We expect great things from our boys and challenge them to achieve their very best.

Yet our greatest achievement is the unique opportunity we give every boy. The potential to develop into well-rounded young men with confidence, compassion and critical minds.

        Bedford School Highlights

Our strong academic tradition informs everything we do. Consistent high exam results in GCSE, A Level and the International Baccalaureate set the standard for academic achievement throughout the school.

Our curriculum extends well beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum, and has been developed to provide a balanced and varied choice of subjects to challenge each pupil’s individual strengths.

Bedford has an enviable sporting tradition with strongly performing teams and many individual successes. Yet we never forget that sport should be fun and we encourage every boy to find an activity that they can enjoy, succeed at and progress in long after they leave school.

The facilities we provide for the arts match the ambition we have for boys to explore their creativity. The Art School contains dedicated spaces for printmaking, sculpture and ceramics, and our Music School offers pupils the chance to create, record and study in specialist teaching and recital rooms and studios.

We never underestimate the importance of getting the right education for your son – and the right preparation for university, career and adult life. Our admissions procedure is designed to give you confidence that you’re making an informed decision.

You are encouraged to visit us as often as you would like in order to be sure that Bedford School is the best place right for your son. Of course, we would be delighted to show him exactly what’s on offer – and the classmates he will study alongside – at an open day or on an individual visit. But you may also wish to visit on your own, and we will be happy to oblige.

Whatever you choose, we will always try to arrange a meeting with the Head Master so that you can discuss your son’s individual educational needs. We can also talk you through the admissions process and answer any of your questions. Please contact Anna Steiger, Director of Admissions, or the rest of her admissions team.
